Using slate tiles for residential or commercial projects

Known for their beauty, versatility and durability, slate tiles have seen an upsurge in popularity in recent times. Homeowners, interior designers, architects and project managers alike can see just how many applications this adaptable and affordable natural material can have.

Slate tiles are timeless, sophisticated and add dimension, texture and visual interest wherever they are applied – their natural beauty is subtle yet distinctive, without being overtly patterned or attention-grabbing.

What is slate?

Found throughout the world, slate is a fine-grained metamorphic rock which is formed when its main elements – layers of quartz, chlorite, mica and calcite sediments – are compressed and heated by the earth's crust.

Hard and durable, our premium quality slate tiles are ideal for use in areas with high footfall and will enhance any space, from residential properties to commercial spaces.

Bring character to a home with slate tiles

Equally at home in modern or traditional settings, with their naturally-formed layers and depth of colour, slate tiles bring a striking and unique element of rustic outdoor beauty indoors.

Not all slate tiles are a uniform 'slate grey' colour. Some slate tiles exhibit earthier brown and rich copper tones, whilst others are marbled with a palette of mauve, purple and deep burgundy; less commonly seen slate tiles can be shot through with shades of olive green, blue, yellow ochre and rust red – there really is a huge spectrum of colour and pattern variation when it comes to slate.

With so much variation in colour and surface texture, creating a stunning effect in kitchens, bathrooms, wetrooms, conservatories and hallways with slate tiles is no challenge.

Slate tiles used outdoors

Ideal for outdoor use, slate tiles bring character and style to gardens, decks and outdoor entertainment areas. As a natural material, slate sits harmoniously alongside the elements in an outdoor space; as well as being aesthetically-pleasing, slate tiles are also a practical and non-slippery floor treatment. The relatively low absorption rate of slate means that it is less likely to be damaged by frost or prolonged water exposure.

Slate tiles for commercial spaces

With durable properties, and providing an injection of style, slate tiles are an ideal solution for floors and walls in all manner of different commercial settings – even those with high traffic.

Especially at home in atmospheric bars and restaurants, slate tiles are also increasingly popular in high end retail establishments as well as in areas with a high footfall such as museums, galleries and hotel foyers.
